This temple was commissioned during Rama V reigned. It brought in many Burmese carpenters so the pillars were engraved in Burmese.
Northern Thais believed that since cutting down trees anger the forest spirits, they need to use the wood to build a temple to please these spirits. The whole temple was made out of teak wood.
Both the interior and exterior of the temple takes on the form of Burmese architecture.

Some pillars are covered by stained glass which were influenced by British churches and the ideas brought in by British merchants at the time.
